A quiet garden in the afternoon
A garden changes gradually through the afternoon. At first, sunlight reaches the middle of the path and makes the pale stones look warm. Later, the shadow of a nearby tree stretches across the same place. The shape changes slowly enough that it is easy to miss unless someone sits still and watches for a while.
Leaves move at different speeds in a light breeze. Smaller leaves turn quickly, while heavier branches sway and then settle. The sound comes and goes with the wind. Between those moments, other sounds become easier to notice: a bird on the fence, a door closing in the distance, or water running briefly from a tap.
Keeping a simple field note does not require special equipment. A notebook, a pencil, and a few minutes of attention are enough. It helps to describe what is visible rather than guessing why it happened. Recording the time and the direction of the light makes it possible to compare one visit with another. Small observations become more useful when their context is kept alongside them.
